Helen Hunt started her career in show business during the 1970s. She was once a child actress whose role included being the daughter of Murray Slaughter in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” She followed this with a guest appearance opposite Lindsay Wagner in one episode of “The Bionic Woman.” Soon after, she was cast in a regular role in “The Swiss Family Robinson.” She also appeared in an episode of the “Facts of Life,” and the 1982 after school special “Desperate Lives.” Helen Hunt became a popular face in 1980s, by having a recurring role on “St. Elsewhere” as Dr. Jack Morrison’s girlfriend, Clancy Williams. She is also noted for her role as Jennie in “Bill: On His Own,” alongside Mickey Rooney.

At the turn of the 1990s, Helen Hunt was cast in the lead role of the short-lived series “My Life and Times.” Later on she became known to the audiences in the TV sitcom “Mad About You,” which led her to winning four consecutive Emmy Award for her performance in the years, 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. Aside from a successful TV career, Helen Hunt also starred in blockbuster movies such as “Cast Away” and “Twister.”

In 1998, Helen Hunt won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Carol Connelly in the romantic movie “As Good As It Gets,” opposite veteran actor Jack Nicholson. She then took the time off screen to focus on her role as Viola in “Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night,” which was held at the Lincoln Center, New York.

Helen Hunt returned to the big screen in 2000 and starred in four films, “Dr. T & the Women” opposite Richard Gere, “Pay It Forward” with Haley Joel Osment and Kevin Spacey, and “What Women Want” alongside Mel Gibson. She also returned to the stage and starred in the Broadway premiere of “Life x 3.”

Being one of the most bankable actresses of her time, Helen Hunt was among the ones considered to play the role of Clarice Starling in “Hannibal,” but she lost to Julianne Moore. In 2006, she appeared in a small but important role in the film “Bobby.”

Aside from acting, Helen Hunt is also a director. She has filmed a number of episodes for “Mad About You,” and as well as the film “Then She Found Me.” She also owns the production company Hunt/Tavel Productions together with partner Connie Tavel.
